Stop Motion Art Therapy Workshop Details
"Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion"
- Rumi
Stop motion animation combines a series of photographs to create a continuous sequence of moving images. This process fits well with exploring themes of impermanence, transfomation, and the power of small shifts. It can be used as a mindfulness art therapy technique with individuals and groups to gain perspective of an overall narrative. The creation of the film uniquely kick-starts a work of art into motion while slowing down the process moment-to-
moment.
Katie Hall, M.A., LMHC will guide this therapeutic group, focusing on the theme of transformations. Participants will learn how to create a stop motion animation using collage materials, drawing tools, and other art media. During this workshop we will create a collective film and reflect on our efforts to tolerate change. We will examine our ability to honor our encounters with both joy and chaos in order to gain insight and appreciation for the larger moving picture and story of our lives.
This workshop has been previously presented at state and national levels through NMATA (New Mexico Art Therapy Association) and AATA (American Art Therapy Association) in the past year.
For Clients:

This group workshop will use a multimodal approach and include guided imagery meditation, individual and group art-making, music, and movement. Participants will engage in hands-on, cooperative filmmaking, while learning a new skill and gaining creative inspiration to kick-start your life into motion!
